Final-year students doing the Agency Ready unit benefited from expert advice at recent MMU event.
Wednesday night’s Portfolio Show for final-year students from MMU’s BSc Web Development, BSc Information & Communications, and BSc Digital Media & Communications programmes, was a huge success.
A good turnout from students and industry guests ensured there was a thriving two hours of discussion at The Shed.
Students taking the final-year Agency Ready unit showed the professionals their work, getting feedback on coding, design and the content of their portfolios. Staff ensured that students moved regularly between the guests to get a variety of feedback.
“It was fantastic to watch,” said tutor and event organiser Richard Eskins. “The students pitched straight in there, asking our industry guests questions, proudly showing their work but with no fear of criticism.”
The evening started with an engaging talk from Dave Heath, technical director at Code Computer. Focusing on the topic, ‘learning to unlearn and learn again’, Heath addressed what is a fundamental issue in the fast-moving digital sector – that graduates need to constantly relearn and update their skills and knowledge to remain competitive.
Information & Communications student Mohammed Arfan said: “It was a great event. We got excellent feedback from people in the web development industry. I’ve already acted on the feedback and made changes to my website – it looks much better now!”
