The Big Chip Awards is back for its 18th year and open for entries from across the North.

The 2016 Big Chip Awards are now open for entries. The UK’s longest-running digital awards, the event is organised by Manchester Digital in partnership with a variety of organisations, including Manchester Metropolitan University.

Now in its 18th year, the not-for-profit awards recognise excellence across the North’s digital sector, with 19 categories in total.

Awards include: Best User Experience, Best Use of Mobile, and Most Innovative Application of Technology. New for this year is Best Digital Marketing Campaign.

Also among the 19 categories is the Little Chip Student Award, which in 2015 was won by MMU’s Chris Chippindale, Richard Evans and Katrina McLaughlin.

There are also two ‘Special Awards’ chosen from the shortlisted entries: The Anthony Wilson Award chosen by special guest judge Matt Miller of UsTwo; and Grand Prix, awarded to the entry considered to have ‘impressed the most’.

Aimed at digital, creative, and tech companies, as well as businesses and organisations that have commissioned digital work, entries are open to work done in the North of England, classed as anywhere from the Scottish borders to Derbyshire.

Panel of judges

This year’s panel of nine judges includes the renowned Manchester designer and MMU alumnus Malcolm Garrett (last year’s special guest judge), the BBC’s Bill Thompson, Plusnet founder Lee Strafford, and Thinking Digital founder Herb Kim. The panel is chaired Al Scott FRSA of C3.

Chair of the Big Chip Steering Group, Shaun Fensom (pictured), said: “Over 18 years we have seen the Big Chip Awards grow with an industry that now impacts every part of the economy.
“I’m proud of the fact that being shortlisted for one of our awards now means a huge amount to businesses both big and small – winning an award is a brilliant achievement that can gain new clients as well as praise and recognition.”
The deadline for entries is Monday 7 March and the shortlist will be announced on Thursday 28 April 2016. The awards ceremony will take place at Manchester Midland Hotel on 23 June 2016.
